Cold Seat

One of my hobbies is playing poker. I'm not a pro I just like to watch the different people and learn how they think. Just like most all things in our lives. I feel being a winner or loser depends a lot on your attitude towards the game. Last week I'm in a game and playing there is a friend who is know to be a fairly solid player. Anyhow he's been playing all week putting in about 10 hours a session. I know he's feeling pretty frustrated cards aren't coming his way and when they do he's constantly being run down. At this particular casino most of the players there like to move all in with a straight or flush draws. This is great if the besthand pre flop can hold up but very frustrating when the cards go against you. Especially if your a player like my buddy who will patiently wait hours for the good hands. Finally he gets a hand in a 2-5 game. raises to 25 dollars w 2 callers. Flop comes down A 10 4 all clubs. Its check to my friend and he leads out with a 60 dollar bet , one player folds the 2nd min raises to 120 and my buddy calls. Now to this point every thing is good cause the player my friend is up against is the typical player there that likes to go for flushes and straights and will put lot of money in to see the next card. The turn is a blank with no help to anyone the other dude pushes in a 200 hundred dollar bet my buddy looks down to check his cards usually a sign of being beat and looking for a re draw, and goes all in with another 200 on top. Easy call for the other guy with a flush 67 of clubs and my buddy rolls over ace queen off and no club. I couldn't beleive it what was my solid poker playing buddy thinking. Lost his cool. Just wanted to win even though he knew he was beat. Didn't think about getting another hand just wanted this one to win. Hey you can't win them all, sometimes you can't even win a few or any and when you do there not big ones. But you have to stay in the game and you have to play it right no matter how tough, thats what makes a winner. Like the song says: Wipe the sheet off your face boy its a brand new day respect yourself!!
